Rabih Ahmed is a Ghanaian- American Muslim poet and educator from The Bronx, NY. She has performed her poetry at the renowned Apollo Theatre, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, and at various college campuses across New York State. Rabih is a graduate with a B.A in Political Science from the State University of New York at New Paltz. She has taught poetry and performance with Community-Word Project, Fordham University, and Girls Inc. 

 

Rabih is a 2019 Poets House Fellow and has received support from Winter Tangerine and Cave Canem. She was first recognized by the Department of Education, where she was commissioned to Johannesburg, South Africa to meet Nelson Mandela. Inspired by the legacy of Mandela, Rabih's work is grounded within the rhythms of the African Diaspora and bridges lost narratives across the Atlantic.

 

As an artist-scholar, she has traveled throughout the Caribbean, South America, and Africa. Rabih has performed her work in Brazil and Cuba, exemplifying the responsibility of the artist to unify communities of African descent. As an undergraduate, she studied abroad in Havana to examine the role of political artistry in post-Revolution Cuba.

Through poetry and performance, Rabih boundlessly explores identity, liberation, and cultivates a visceral experience for readers. She is motivated by the agency embedded in poetry to challenge systems of racism, xenophobia, sexism, and simultaneously gains freedom in this art form.

 

She is currently an educator and performer throughout New York City.
